This week we will be working on the letter S and the color word yellow.
In math we are working on sorting by shape, size, color as well as other categories.
On Tuesday we will be sorting by items that go in an art box and items that go in a lunchbox.
On Wednesday we will be sorting nuts by size, type and color.
Homework will begin this week. Homework will go home in your child's homework folder and should return on Friday in the same folder. Please continue to read 100 Book Challenge books with your child every night. Remember, you can sign 1 line for each 15 minutes you read. Our goal by the end of the first grading period is to have 100 lines (or more!).
Scholastic Book Orders also went home this week. If you are interested in placing an order please return it to school with your child no later than this Friday. You may order online or pay with a check made out to "Scholastic".
One of my favorite things I've heard in my classroom so far is this quotation: "This is the best kindergarten ever!"
And while I am THRILLED that they are having a good time, I can't help but think that they've got no other kindergarten experience to compare it to! :)

Week of September 7
I can say with complete confidence that the first 4 days of school have been a success! I hope your kiddos are enjoying the year as much as I am!
This week we will be studying the letter M. While we will be spending great amounts of time at school discussing what starts with M and practicing our weekly letter it would be wonderful if you can help at home by practicing writing both upper-case and lower-case M. Handwriting is the one area that we never have enough time for in the school day! Please remember that we always, always, always start our letters at the top and work down.
This week we will also be studying the color word blue. Each week we sing a color word song. Try asking your child to sing it for you at home!
In Math we are working on positional words including (but not limited to!) above, below, inside, outside, next to, in front of, and behind.
Our specials schedule has been finalized! Here is a brief overview:
Monday- Music
Tuesday- Library (LRC)
Wednesday- Gym (Please have your child wear tennis shoes to school. Please do NOT send them and ask your child to change shoes for gym. Tennis shoes should be worn all day on Wednesdays. Thanks!)
Thursday- no special
Friday- Art (If you have not yet sent in an art shirt for your child, please do so!)
