Week of October 4

Well after 8 full days and 2 1/2 days and a total of 5 different substitutes- I'm finally back!
I'm looking forward to this week not only because I'm planning on being there all 5 days, but also because our parent 100 Book Challenge coaches are starting this week and conferences are taking place.
Here's what we are learning about this week in Room 2:  the letter Pp, the color word purple, sight words: the, like & I.  In math we will continue our work in patterning as well as practicing the numbers 4 & 5.  We will be reviewing writing numbers 1-5 in class and I appreciate if you can help practice at home as well.
Here is the number talk we use to help us remember how to write our numbers correctly:
1: Start at the top and down we run.  That's how we make a 1.
2: Around the track and go right back.  Two, two, two (like a train choo, choo, choo sound!)
3: Around the tree and around the tree, that's how we make a 3.
4: Down, over and down some more.  That's how we make a four.
5: Down, a fat belly and a hat on top.  Hello, Mr. 5  (Okay, so this one doesn't rhyme, but how do you rhyme 5?!  :) Plus, the kiddos get a kick out of putting the "hat" on top to finish it off!)

Please remember to sign your child's homework packet.  This lets me know that you have checked your child's work and have a clear understanding of the skills that we are practicing in class.

The Halloween Parade and Party will take place on Friday, October 29.  Mrs. Dean will be sending home more detailed information.  At King students must earn special rewards including holiday parties.  For Room 2 students to attend the Halloween Parade and Party they will need 12 green days.  The count will begin tomorrow!

Please remember to check your email periodically throughout the week.  If there are any other updates, I will send them via email!
